Pediatrics & Adult Strabismus

Your child’s ability to see the world depends on healthy eyes. A Pediatric Ophthalmologist receives additional training after their residency in adult ophthalmology that focuses on the developing visual system and the diseases that affect children. At the Eye Institute at Medical Center Clinic, we have the expertise to treat the conditions that affect your children’s eyes. This can range from general eye exams to complex childhood eye disease. Children are not little adults. They have different needs. Some of our children have special needs. We frequently co-manage and collaborate with local pediatricians and pediatric specialists to achieve the best outcomes for our patients.

Adult Strabismus And diplopia

Many childhood eye movement disorders can persist into adulthood. Some of these eye movement disorders, however, are acquired as part of other manifestations of complex neurological disease. This misalignment can result in the symptom of double vision. Treatment depends on the underlying cause. It often includes the use of prism or eye muscle surgery. Our staff at the Eye Institute has the specialized training to care for this unique disease.

What to Expect at your visit

The Eye Institute is located on the second floor of building 2 on Medical Center Clinic’s main campus. Parking is located around our famous Duck Pond. Feeding of the ducks and turtles is allowed and usually a nice reward for the kids after the exam. We recommend feeding corn, lettuce or bird seeds, but not bread – contrary to popular belief, bread is very unhealthy and dangerous for ducks to eat.

There are seven ophthalmologists at the Eye Institute so our department can get very busy. You can help facilitate the check-in process by having your insurance card ready to be scanned. Patient forms can be downloaded and filled out prior to your arrival. After you have been checked in, your child may be called back by one of the staff to be pre-checked before the doctor comes into the room. Dilating drops may sometimes be used at this time. After a brief period, the doctor will then come in to complete the examination and go over any pertinent information with the parents or guardians of the child.
